We are on the countdown to halloween y’all! It’s just about a week away – still plenty of time to put together a quick & easy DIY costume.
The idea of celebrating Halloween seemed so uncertain this year, with many choosing not to participate in the holiday at all. We really wanted to take Leana trick-or-treating & as of now, we are still planning on doing so, but just up & down our street. There are just a few other kids nearby so our neighbors are planning on having a little candy, just for the littles to have the experience.
I DIY’d our costumes last Halloween – they were Target themed! Check out the blog post here. We knew we wanted to do family costumes again this year but it took us forever to decide on a theme. We picked a fun one so stay tuned for those! For Leana’s solo costume though, I picked Moana!
Moana is one of Orlando & I’s favorite movies. When we first saw it, we watched 3 more times that week! & both of us thought that Leana resembled baby Moana so I figured it’d be an effortless costume idea. The pre-made costumes online are cute but not really my taste so I looked over a few pictures & clips from the movie & got to making! Check out the step by step process below.
Supplies:
-
Beige l inen shorts
-
Tropical flower hair clip (purchased at Hobby Lobby) – here is a similar style on Amazon
-
Fabric paint – you can find smaller bottles at your local craft store
Step 1:
I added a little scalloped design right under the tank’s collar. I’d recommend using a darker red to do this part – I didn’t realize how similar the paint color was to the shirt.
Step 2:
Then I made 3 sets of arches on the shorts. Pulling the fabric taut as you paint it may work best, since it’s scrunched. Give the fabric paint at least 5-6 hours to dry.
Step 3: Add in the accessories & you’re all set!
Leave a comment letting me know if you plan on trying this costume, or tell me what your little one is dressing up as for Halloween!
