Leana & I are hosting our 2nd virtual play date, this Friday, February 26th at 11:30 AM EST! Friday is National Tell A Fairy Tale day, so the activities we have planned are based on 3 fairy tales, Jack & the Beanstalk, The Princess & the Pea & The 3 Little Pigs. If you didn’t purchase a playdate box for this event, you can do so here (your items will not be delivered in time though!), or check out the lists below of materials you’ll need to participate in our activities!
Here are the books we’ll be reading! These are classic stories though so any book or story you can find online to read, will do just fine!
Magic Beans Sensory Bin
What You’ll Need:
- Dry Beans
- Food coloring
- Ziplock bags
- Parchment or wax paper
Directions: To dye beans, separate them into bags, based on number of colors you’d like to use. Add 2-3 drops of food coloring to each bag, seal & gently massage to spread food coloring. Once you get your desired color, pour beans onto parchment or wax paper, spreading into 1 even layer. Allow 2-3 hours for beans to dry.
Dying the beans will give a ‘magical’ feel, just like the beans Jack had in the ‘Jack & the Beanstalk’ story. This activity is great for sensory development & can be used to practice color recognition, counting & tactile advancement by scooping. pouring, etc.
- Small green object – bouncy ball, bead, etc.
Directions: Shape & mold play doh into small sheets. Stack atop one another, hiding the green object in between.
The green item symbolizes the pea in the ‘Princess & the Pea’ story, while the play-doh symbolizes the blankets. Bury the object for a fun game of hide-and-seek, which is great for teaching the concept of object permanence.
Decorate a House
- House cutout
- Craft embellishments – beads, cotton balls, pipe cleaners, paper, markers, paint, etc.
Decorate the house’s exterior, just as the 3 little pigs did in the story!
